Was GPT-5 Underwhelming? OpenAI Co-founder Leaves, Figure02 Arrives, Character.AI Gutted, GPT-5 2025

Did GPT-5 just get delayed to 2025? Brockman takes leave, Schulman just leaves and OpenAI co-founders are abandoning ship. Plus Figure02, Musk lawsuit, Character.AI hollowed out, new Gemini 1.5 Pro, Dev Day hints and more. The race narrows to just Meta, Anthropic, Google and OpenAI. I’ll cover what this all says about the eventual release of GPT-5 and the race to ever smarter models…

Still the best and most reliable A.I. channel on YouTube

    • @thanos879 says:

I unsubscribed from all of them except this one. This is one of the only channels that isn’t playing the YT algorithm game isn’t insulting our intelligence at times.

  • @erik2093 says:

less than 1 minute ago we out here

  • @DaveShap says:

My spidey sense was just tingling. Time for another AI Explained video.

  • @chrisr6994 says:

Just opened my YouTube app. I always click immediately when AI Explained uploads a fresh video.

  • @shriharshbankapur9666 says:

Something big about sora will be there by the end of the year.

  • @Thedeepseanomad says:

I would like to have the option for Robotic AIs with precision. Not some: Uhmm.-yeah-lol-sure-bot.

  • @JD-jl4yy says:

I hope Altman doesn’t gets his way. We don’t need machiavellianism incarnate at the steering wheel of AI

  • @foreignconta says:

Really happy when I got new video notification from you!

  • @450b says:

So many conflicting stories, getting hyped about Strawberry but then stuff like this happens. Wondering if we are entering an AI winter or summer

    • @DreckbobBratpfanne says:

@@450b Winter seems nearly impossible considering even if models wouldn’t improve for another decade or more we could still get tons of awesome stuff out of them, not AGI+ but a new super tool maybe on par with the Internet. Also looking at stuff like AlphaProof I doubt it just stops at what it can do right now, if we get a full math model it would be a game changer for science, even if it’s not AGI+

  • @jackfarris3670 says:

Is there still a wait list to get a ChatGPT subscription? Only reason I’m still paying $20 a month is because I don’t want to be put in a wait list when gpt 5 comes out

    • @aiexplained-official says:

I doubt there is a waitlist. And if that’s the only reason you might want to duck out of it for a few months

    • @trucid2 says:

What? No such list I’m aware of. You’re throwing away money if thet’s the only reason you have a subscription.

  • @OperationDarkside says:

What I need is a model that can “debug” code without a debugger, although with a debugger sounds intrigueing. Still only the biggest models can solve my stupidly easy code debug challenge. If a good and cheap debugging model is found, the real 10x programmer might be at everyones fingertips.

  • @user-cg7gd5pw5b says:

“Only four companies” bro don’t disrespect my boy Mistral like that

  • @H4Ni120 says:

I love how structurally critical you are of AI news and studies. This is great journalism. You’re one of my main sources for AI news. Great quality.

Tiny feedback, I believe many of us would highly appreciate it if you add chapters (sections) to your videos. It makes it easier to reference a certain part or skip to an anticipated part. Especially since you talk about different topics.

  • @nathanlannan2980 says:

chatbot arena often comes down to which has better markdown formatting – in this regard the gpt4 suite is very good

  • @yousafwazir286 says:

    Seems AI is slowing down

  • @gerkim3046 says:

    ChatGPT counting was pretty funny

  • @inspectorcrud says:

These humanoid robots look superficially good, I need to see them doing something more complicated than pick and place or loading a coffee machine. I need to see them navigate an unfamiliar house, climb the stairs with a tray of food it has prepared.

  • @artemiyshadrin1980 says:

Is it just me or it seems like AI Explained refuses to talk about Mistral AI?

    • @aiexplained-official says:

I did a whole podcast discussing them! tldr Large v2 disappoints so I no longer really consider them one of the Big Four

  • @AgentStarke says:

Most likely AGI is still only a couple of breakthroughs away, the question is how long do we have until those breakthroughs are achieved. LLMs were always just a piece of the puzzle.

  • @trentondambrowitz1746 says:

Great update as always, I think the question on everyone’s mind now is how OpenAI will respond, or whether or not they will at all. Although 3.5 sonnet is certainly an improvement, I remain frustrated at the slow progress in improving visual and critical thinking capabilities. Hopefully I at least get access to the new voice mode soon!
