Nepo Babies: Modern Royalty?!
All your comments got us on a Nepo baby kick now… 😮💨
You know the “Nepo Baby Industrial Complex” is out of control when our collective obsession with their lives is basically its own genre of content now.
Would love to see the same energy directed at creators who aren’t just coasting on generational wealth. Maybe then we’d get something truly interesting to watch. 🤷♀️

Like many things, I think the internet has strapped rockets onto tendencies that were already there. I remember when “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” and “MTV Cribs” were shows people tuned into.
💯
I also remember those shows were really popular right before the recession and then disappeared
You got a point! 👏🏻
Thank you for that line on being Patrons of interesting art and architecture because i would argue that the rich of today are the most USELESS in history because they dont even sponsor great works of art and culture
I mean say what you want about Andrew Carnegie
He made himself useful
They are the richest people to have ever lived and also the most useless
It’s the worst kind of monarchy though, monarchy without noblesse oblige
Exactly. I say all the time, will never be able to eat the rich because too many poor people want to eat with them
Or to watch them eat as they themselves starve
Americans who love the English Monarchy confuse me..but then esp the Irish Americans?? I’m sorry please read like one book ever
Irish Americans don’t even need to read a book, try a headline, like one from just today, “Irish language signage in Belfast train station stopped amid potential legal action.” The fight isn’t over. Ireland is still occupied.
This just makes me so relieved I never got on most social media, minus the bit I have to do as a small candle business owner on instagram. And because of this fact my curated content is cool handmade crafts from super talented people – and funny dog videos. There’s something to be said about how content is curated for you 😅
Nepotism has always been a thing, and to some degree, I can see why children follow in their parents’ footsteps. For starters, they are aware of the industry (how many people really think of dentistry as a profession without a parent or at least a family member already in the profession?). They have a more realistic idea of what it entails (more teachers with teacher parents will persevere than ones without parents in teaching). And yes, those parents can definitely help you build your network, not to mention, teach you a few tricks of the trade. It’s not all for bad reasons.
That said, when people without any talent are elevated to a level they would never have achieved without that hand of mama or papa, when people actively try to keep others out of the industry to protect their offspring, that is an issue.
That last bit about art and architecture 🫰🏾
They call it gilded age and not golden age for a reason
I think that’s the algorithm feeding content you like to see more than a cultural shift towards nepotism
In earlier videos, you mentioned that you were a big sex in the city fan. That show was basically some rich white girl whining about money while spending obscene amounts on an extremely excessive lifestyle. The only difference between Sex in the City and your nepo-baby loaded feed is that Carry whined about how expensive it was and the nepo baby is more honest about mom and dad funding it.
As someone who couldn’t make it all the way through Sex in the City. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video like you described on my social media feed. The lifestyle content the algorithm feeds me is way more DIY and up-cycle oriented, probably because I work in skilled trades with experience in historical restoration work
The difference in our feeds in almost certainly algorithmic bias, not actual cultural trends
Also worth noting: I live in a country with a monarchy. A democratic Westminster monarchy to be specific. Canada, Australia, and the UK all have the British king, and Japan, Belgium, Denmark, and Spain each have their own monarch as well. All of those are democratic nations. None of them have the rampant wealth inequality or oligarchy problem the US is currently facing. In most modern cases, the monarchy does the exact opposite and is a stabilizing force
In Canada, the Governor General (who represents the king) has the ability to step in and intervene when the government doesn’t act in good faith. He/she could force the government to have another election to see if people still choose them as prime minister, or they can tell another party to choose a leader without an election. They can literally step in and remove a corrupt politician if they abuse their position the way Trump has
Maybe the average American doesn’t know what a monarchy looks like, but your problem is really unchecked under-regulated capitalism with an obsession with excessive wealth and fame. It’s not even multi-generational wealth specific, since you guys love a rags to riches story too.
It’s the capitalism.
Bro I’m doing architecture now and it’s still unbelievably classist. I can’t afford a computer that runs the software required to do well and it’s not offered on University computers. Your grades are litterally capped by your access to a quality GPU. I couldn’t understand why everyone just knew how to use the software when we were never really taught it, but they all are Nepo babies working at their dad or uncles firms. Not to mention lectures refusing to put all course information online to make people attend in person “I understand some of you have work, but you should be prioritising this as is your career😊” lady some of us are facing homelessness if we miss a shift.
The Leonora Smee channel was the most over-the-top one I’ve ever seen. They travel to their mansion in the Mediterranean that they’re decorating with random antiques, in old money style, as if it’s been there forever. Then she unpacks a massive haul of luxury handbags that were gifted to her. Then they lounge en plein aire dining for like 4 hours with all these different wine selections. It’s just… all too much entirely…
I completely agree. People in this country do yearn for monarchy. They place their value on others who are more wealthy than they are because they don’t feel worthy of their own admiration. Just sad to have come so far as a democracy for it to fall to people who place their worth in another’s hands without question. They then act surprised when they aren’t benefiting from lifting up their oppressors.
I don’t think people want monarchy, but they do want someone or something to believe is perfect or nearly so. They can’t afford the time or resources necessary to have extravagance, so they convince themselves that those who do must have some inherent value because to accept otherwise is to live each day with conscious knowledge of the inequity of the world, and doing that is depressing.
Yeah, we live vicariously through them on some level
Just on a side note…your hair is gorgeous. You are looking incredibly sophisticated ❤
What else here to say 👏👏👏👏👏
Not to mention that their engagement just makes the rich richer…
your style is so chic.
