Bail bonds are a scam! I can’t believe someone may have to empty their savings to get out of jail for a crime they may not have committed….

I think the law should be they have to have you in court in 24 hours if the crime was a misdemeanor and within 72 hours if it’s a felony. If they can’t have you in court within that time frame, they need to send you home.
However, if you take advantage of that and run – you should be counted as automatically guilty no matter if you were innocent or not – trail waived, that’s it.
Sounds like a fair trade off.
Its not a scam though, they provide a service that is optional. The risk is that if you skip bond, they lose money.

The moral is that paying bail is a very US exclusive thing and is very very very very very stupid as a system and leaves COUNTLESS people innocent until proven guilty locked away for sometimes longer than they would be sentenced for, all for not being able to post bail whilst rich people can do whatever they’d like
Bail is usually proportional to the crime or income of the person. Bond is there to ensure you come back for your court hearings. It’s not a bad thing, and many countries have it!

Hyperbole. Bail is set to lower rates. The judge doesn’t want to send officers to look for you, aka warrant. Or Skip town. There’s a slew of people who go in and out of prison all the time. We’re the highest prison population in world.
