That’s a good question to ask whether you are a young adult or older.

Ooof, that just about sums up my financial decisions from my 20’s. Definitely wisdom I plan to pass on to my kids down the road.

  • @human-capital- says:

The whole idea of aspirational spending is the underpinning of consumer capitalism.
This is not something we do to ourselves, but rather, a long-term strategy employed by the corporations as a means of corralling us into maximal spending habits.
So, please don’t feel alone or silly if this happened to you. You’re the “target” and you were just following orders.
It’s as American as apple pie.

No kidding, I remember the 90’s frenzy here in Portugal with exotic destination travelling, reading travel agencies cataloque/magazines made you feel like you were missing out and would have nothing to talk about, if you didn’t travel to those places on an all included pack! A lot of families would ask for credits to go on these trips.

I did actually spend my way out of myself, but that was on heroin, so a wee bit different. That new person I spent my way into was an absolute monster. Amazingly my finances got much better after leaving IV opiates behind. Who could have guessed? Apparently not me for an entire decade. Ultimately it was still an attempt to fill horrific holes in myself and obfuscate the severe trauma I had experienced. Shopping and overspending certainly activates the same regions in the brain as many illicit substances. Seek the help of a professional, as sometimes untangling trauma and using spending as an emotional crutch, like opiates, is simply something that many cannot get over by themselves.

    Soooo true

  • @AM-wn1dn says:

Wow that’s a good question for any age.

can someone tell me who the creator is? Chelsea has not mentioned her name

  • @andreaarchambeau9499 says:

Some variation of that question will be asked in all parts of my life from this day forward.

  • @honeyartstudios says:

I wish you could build on this topic. It still sounds like me because I still deal with these insecurities and low self-esteem, but Im not sure if it’s that or revenge-spending.

  • @cmg25 says:

Say that again. It’s very easy to get caught up in this because it’s effectively the messaging of ALL marketing. Even easier when you’re surrounded by peers who can’t see the forest for the trees, or have endless funds making them “yes men” when it comes to frivolous spending.

  • @andwedanced7355 says:

Loving the advice and loving the whole outfit & accessories Chelsea!

  • @cassandrajosettehall says:

love this! Also, where did you get your top from?

  • @lisecarolina says:

I don’t know… I am a firm believer in the “dress for the job you want not the one you have”… and the idea that if you want to be “happier” you can try smiling more and in a weird way you trick your brain into thinking it is happier. Obviously, you know, within reason: you aren’t going to start doing surgery on someone (without the education/certification) because you “want” to become a surgeon, nor should you spend like millionaire because you want to become a millionaire. But you can work like a millionaire, have the habits of a millionaire, if you want to become one.
But I do think that certain things we do help attract the things we want into our life. But it is important to weed out the things that actually help us vs hinder us.

Not to mention, there’s ad teams being paid millions to convince you that purchase WILL make you that person
