This is why Iβm in favour of eloping.
$3.50
I got wed with budget of $2,000 all-in. We only invited few family members total 20 people. no dress code just like going to sunday church. Eat on buffet after. Fair deal.
I might never get married. I’m not spending about the same amount of money as 5 years in college did!
You can still get married without a wedding. Just gotta have a partner that agrees with that decision.
We had a decent wedding but utilized free venue locations for the ceremony, did a lunch reception rather than dinner which was the same food at half the cost. We were all in for $8k (granted that was over a decade ago) and as much as we liked it, ended up rather wish we just went to Vegas for the weekend and had it done there.
My suggestion is get married in privet, minimal people, then host a big party to celebrate.
my wife and i spent whatever a marriage license and wedding rings cost. we got married for ourselves and not for others. that being said we were immigrants with no nearby family.
20% of your combined income is absurd. Especially for young couples. Just too much.
There is too much obligation for a wedding. You probably hate half the people you invite. Stop making it about your friends and family and their expectations. Make it about what YOU want.
My wife and I got married off the cliffs of Point Lobos (free), and we had our friend get ordained online. Her husband was the witness. That was the entire guest list. We spent our money on our honeymoon in Carmel at a fancy secluded spa resort. Whole thing cost less than $3000 (20 years ago), and it was perfect. No drama, no stress, no obligation.
personally i agree but often times couples spend way more than 20%
Thatβs so much money for a one day event. We just got married in my grandmaβs backyard with only 10 people as our guests π
Our wedding was over the average, but it was worth it to us. Initially I wanted a small wedding but husband wanted a big celebration. His reasoning was that we already bought a place years ago and we could extend our engagement period to be able to afford our wedding debt free. Be realistic with your budget, manage your expectations, and prioritize what’s important. Happy wedding planning for those tying the knot!
Our wedding was $2K. No engagement ring and my dress was off the rack purple silk shift from a fancy department store. We had 16 guests and the venue was the old-fashioned courthouse in the city where we became college sweethearts. We had a light dinner in a private room at our favorite hotel. Violinist from undergraduate music program, inexpensive photographer building his business, two-tier cake, simple hydrangea arrangements. Almost $1K of the total cost (ie 50%) was a bespoke suit for my husband who was starting a new job in another country where he would need to dress well! We are still married 14 years later (and 25 after starting our relationship). Have three kids, two properties, paid our first place off in 2.5 yrs. Kids are set for four yr undergrad degrees at in-state public universities. Retirement savings in the bag! We drive one nice car and a handful of electric bikes. And we live off one income bc we have kids with disabilities who need a full time parent at home. We are happy and healthy(ish) and our wedding was meaningful.
