    Conventional Beauty = Depreciating Asset.

Amen. Then, Amen again. Invest in something else.

  • @rachelk4805 says:

As somebody who worked in the industry, beauty is absolutely a way of displaying wealth. You don’t age out of it in the sense that dressing sharply, wearing fine jewelry, paying for nails and lashes are a way of saying you have money without saying it out loud.

I had many clients who were two or three times my age but they also had no problem with keeping multiple beauty appointments. They weren’t “conventionally attractive” in the way an 18 year old model is. That wasn’t the point.

HOWEVER: It is always better to have money and look/feel poor than to look/feel rich and be broke.

My year is finding value in comfort. I want a comfortable financial cushion of an emergency fund. I want to invest in a comfortable pantry stock that will benefit my family. I want a life with quiet and comfort for my kids to thrive in. I’m happy with cuddling my dog while we watch movies while I’ve got stew in the crockpot, that’s my 2025 vibe.

I recently learned about the “lipstick effect” from a study published in Journal of Personal and Social Psychology about how and why women are spending more on beauty products and procedures during economic recessions and downturns. Signs of the times…

    Preach it sister!

  • @hucklebucklin says:

It is about buy buy buy! Saving money and planning isn’t what these companies want. Cos if you start “investing in yourself” by getting beauty products young you’ll likely keep doing it for 30 years plus. Great customer there πŸ‘ πŸ‘Œ investing your financial security wont make you a good customer πŸ‘

  • @poll_tax says:

Get it girl. Great advice as always

  • @eikosato5297 says:

Attractiveness depreciates in value as you age and you don’t even have control over how people – men – assess your attractiveness. That makes attractiveness BY DEFINITION not a currency. No other assets have such qualities. I think attractiveness is more like a commodity than asset.

  • @juliannehunter495 says:

“Pretty privilege” is a real thing, and the ability to wield beauty absolutely is currency. A pretty face gets you ahead in life. You get noticed, you get scheduled for the lunch meetings, you get better service, you get to be the person wanted in the room.

I say this as a 65 year old never-been-attractive woman who has spent my life around head-turningly beautiful friends and relatives. They are treated differently, often better, by most people around them.

This is just an observation of the reality I’ve seen consistently happen for decades. I’m not putting myself down, and I’m not jealous. To the pretty ladies I’ve said, go for it, and I’ve been happy for their successes. Yes their currency’s value has gone down as they’ve aged but they’ve accumulated wealth and influence by then.
